Afterword

The Heart Governs the Spirit — A Good Life Begins with the Heart is an attempt to let classical argument and modern life science share one table of contents, instead of sitting on separate shelves.

The core of Chapter 1 is drawn from existing reviews of the Chinese medical literature, and it remains the cultural and clinical anchor of the book. The nine chapters that follow move from molecule to cell, organ, system, and awareness, and close with heart–brain rhythm, ways of caring for the heart, and a stance toward daily life. The writing is meant to stay readable, and not to become a pile of concepts. Where a key idea touches diagnosis or treatment, the book is careful: individualized care and a qualified clinician cannot be replaced.

The hope in writing this book is that more people will come to know the heart again, understand it rightly, and treat it in a scientific way. A good life is not an easy thing to realize. I believe that a reader who finishes the book will have a way of seeing that begins with the heart.
